We are proud to announce that the International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet) has joined the CABI BioProtection Portal as an associate, marking a promising step forward for tropical fruit growers worldwide.
About the International Tropical Fruits Network
Established under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), TFNet is a membership-based international organization that facilitates the exchange of information, expertise, and technologies among tropical fruit-producing countries. Its goal is to develop a globally competitive and sustainable tropical fruit industry by supporting research, promoting best practices, strengthening value chains, and enabling strategic policy development.

TFNet, as a global network dedicated to sustainable tropical fruit development, comprises member countries, international and national associate members, including research institutions and private sector entities, and individuals from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific. The organization works closely with producers, researchers, policymakers, the private sector and other industry stakeholders, to address challenges and opportunities in tropical fruit production and trade.
What brings us together?
TFNet and the CABI BioProtection Portal share a critical mission: making agriculture more sustainable and resilient. Together, we aim to help farmers shift from heavy chemical use to biological solutions that are safer for people and the environment.
With this collaboration, together we aim to:
- Increase awareness of biological control and biopesticide solutions for tropical fruit crops
- Encourage adoption of integrated pest management (IPM) and non-chemical alternatives
- Exchange success stories to illustrate how biological solutions are being applied effectively in real-world situations
- Promote access to science-based information on sustainable crop protection
- Facilitate institutional support for bioprotection approaches
- Support growers and advisors in making more informed pest management decisions
A practical way forward
The partnership with TFNet represents another step forward in the global expansion of the CABI BioProtection Portal. The Portal is currently available in over 45 countries and serves as a trusted resource for growers and advisors seeking effective biological alternatives to chemical pesticides.
With connections across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific, TFNet provides a trusted channel to introduce biocontrol methods and integrated pest management strategies that work for both large and small-scale farmers. The Portal will extend its reach to more stakeholders involved in tropical fruit production, helping them to discover, evaluate, and adopt registered biological solutions tailored to their needs.
