The CABI BioProtection Portal is thrilled to welcome onboard our newest sponsor, KAELTIA Consulting. KAELTIA is a scientific regulatory affairs consultant based out of the Asturias region in Spain, that guides manufacturers worldwide through the process of registering their agricultural products. With over 16 years of experience and seasoned experts with a holistic profile that integrates knowledge of chemistry, biology, (eco) toxicology, microbiology, and agroecology sciences, the portal is honored to welcome a trusted and knowledgeable perspective to the Development Consortium. “Collaborating with regulatory experts that support a move towards natural pest management helps drive the spirit of our mission while providing the expertize needed to make productive change”, said Ulli Kuhlmann, CABI’s Executive Director who oversees development of the portal.

KAELTIA also offers advice on eco-design and sustainable packaging of products in the Agri-Food and Chemical industry in efforts to achieve the European objectives of Zero Waste and Sustainable Development Strategies. Their commitment to promoting a circular economy is something we at the CABI BioProtection Portal are enthusiastic about and eager to support moving forward. “At KAELTIA, we are committed to the environment, to the viability of our businesses, and to a safe and sustainable food system for all. This is why we have decided to join the CABI BioProtection Portal, who share and promote these same core values”. said Elisa Capellán Montoto, CEO of KAELTIA.

The CABI BioProtection Portal is an open-access, online tool aimed to help growers and advisors easily source biopesticides and biocontrol agents for pest management. Already active in 38 countries, the portal includes over 4000 bioprotection products that cover more than 940 crops and 2200 pests. Natural pest management solutions are on the rise, but growth in this area is hampered by a lack of awareness and easy access to alternatives. Many countries do not have an accessible and user-friendly database of registered bioprotection products suitable for on-the-go use by growers and advisors. The portal aims to fill this gap in the market by sourcing product information directly from national authorities and presenting it in a search engine format for users.

The portal is able to remain open-access thanks to the funding provided by our partners, sponsors, and donors. This funding enables us to keep the portal search engine up-to-date with the latest products and registration changes, so it serves as a reliable source of information. In addition, it enables our team to put out relevant news stories within the industry, and maintains the Resources section of our site. Our Resources section serves as an information hub on biopriotection, with introductory material and practical details on how to sustainably manage common pests. By providing growers and advisors with greater accessibility, we hope to accelerate awareness and uptake of bioprotection solutions, and drive innovation within the biopesticide and biological control space. In this way, KAELTIA’s sponsorship contributes to the expansion and maintenance of the portal, while supporting a central pillar of our mission: to encourage the gradual reduction in our reliance on chemical products within agriculture.
