We are delighted to announce that Natural Insect Control (NIC) has joined the CABI BioProtection Portal as our newest partner. NIC is a Canadian-based manufacturer and distributor of biocontrol agents committed to providing natural alternatives to chemical pesticides to protect the environment.
About NIC
NIC specializes in macrobials such as beneficial insects, nematodes and predatory mites and is, in fact, the sole producer of beneficial nematodes in Canada. All the organisms in NIC products are native to North America or have been permitted by Agriculture Canada.
NIC’s mission is to provide eco-friendly choices for natural pest management and work with people in environmental stewardship to make the world a better place. In addition to offering a wide range of biological products, NIC also has educational articles on beneficial predators, nematodes, and more, supporting wider access to biocontrol and other sustainable agricultural practices.
Enhancing the CABI BioProtection Portal
In Canada, there is no requirement to register macrobials; as a result, they are not included in the same registry as biopesticides. This means that NIC products, which were previously not listed on the CABI BioProtection Portal, will soon be added to the over 420 biological products available in Canada. NIC products will feature as ‘partner products’, which can be enhanced with additional information such as labels and safety datasheets.
The Portal currently offers over 4,000 biological plant protection products, which are available to growers and advisors looking for alternatives to chemicals. With NIC’s contribution, our users will have access to an even broader range of natural solutions, further establishing the Portal as a key resource for chemical-free pest management options.
