We are delighted to announce that, on 24 February 2021, IOBC – the International Organization of Biological Control – joined the CABI BioProtection Portal as an Associate. The IOBC is a highly esteemed organization with individual and institutional members possessing expertize in biological control of pests to the highest degree.

Visitors of the Portal will now be able to benefit from the wealth of expertize and knowledge that the organization brings in non-chemical pest control. We will also have the opportunity to source lOBC-owned open access training and other information materials and upload it to the ‘resources’ area of the Portal. This will enable us to promote and support increased awareness of biological insect pest and disease management approaches among growers and advisory service providers using the Portal.

A portal to support non-chemical pest control

Available on four continents, the CABI BioProtection Portal is a ground-breaking information resource that helps growers and agricultural advisors to identify, source and correctly apply biocontrol products against problematic pests in their crops.

As an Associate, IOBC will collaborate with the CABI BioProtection Portal in areas of mutual interest and, as a truly global organisation, will bring opportunities to increase awareness about the importance of biological control of pests and the benefits of the Portal.

The CABI BioProtection Portal aims to be the go-to information resource for those looking to identify and source biocontrol products – helping growers wanting to replace chemical pesticides with natural, non-chemical pest control.

Free to use and accessible on multiple devices, the Portal puts valuable information at the fingertips of the people who need it. The joining of IOBC as an Associate helps expand this available knowledge.

Executive Director, Global Operations at CABI, Dr Ulrich Kuhlmann, said, “CABI and IOBC have close links, going back to the years when IOBC was founded and, therefore, CABI holds an institutional membership to IOBC. I am particularly delighted about the association with the CABI BioProtection Portal as both organizations are promoting the implementation and uptake of biological control approaches in pest management to protect biodiversity in agriculture and the environment.”

The President of IOBC, Professor Martin Hill, said, “We are delighted to be an Associate of CABI BioProtection Portal. We believe that this relationship will allow us to further promote the field of biological control through the world and we are honoured to be in partnership with CABI in this venture.”
