The CABI BioProtection Portal 14th Development Consortium Meeting was held on May 21st, 2026, bringing together 21 Members to review progress and share updates on the Portal’s expansion, impact and future direction, including its role in supporting bioprotection expansion globally. Expanding global reach of the BioProtection Portal

The Portal continues to establish its position as a trusted, science-based resource for biological control and biopesticide advice, contributing to bioprotection expansion through improved access to reliable information. During the meeting, Members heard that the Portal is now available in 54 countries, following the addition of Switzerland, Lebanon, the Netherlands and Austria. According to one of the Portal’s Sponsors DunhamTrimmer, this expanded reach means that the Portal now covers 77.4% of the global biologicals market across major and secondary markets. Traffic to the site also continues to grow thanks to ongoing promotional activities.

New evidence highlights impact on biopesticide adoption

Evidence of the Portal’s real-world impact was highlighted through a published study from India. The study found that farmers using the Portal were 94% more likely to adopt biopesticides than those who did not, demonstrating its effectiveness in influencing farmer decision-making and encouraging the uptake of sustainable crop protection solutions. These findings reflect the Portal’s growing bioprotection impact in supporting informed choices among farmers.

Strategic priorities for 2026

Looking ahead, Members heard and discussed the Portal’s objectives for 2026, which focus on building its commercial viability and further expanding its global influence. Planned activities include diversifying income streams, further increasing country coverage, and investigating the addition of biostimulants to the platform to broaden its value for users and support continued bioprotection expansion.

Supporting informed decision making in practice

Stacey Hickman from Natural Insect Control illustrated the practical benefits of the Portal by sharing her experience using the tool to support biocontrol decisions in Canada. She emphasized its value as a trusted, science-based resource that enables them to verify which options are available for specific pests, cross-check modes of action and compatibility with integrated pest management programmes, and support grower conversations with credible data, further demonstrating its real world bioprotection impact.

Introducing the Global Partnership for Pesticide Risk Reduction

CABI Chief Scientist Ulli Kuhlmann introduced CABI’s new Global Partnership for Pesticide Risk Reduction. He outlined its focus on supporting lower-risk pest management in lower-middle-income countries through coordinated efforts in policy, research, and production initiatives, as well as the CABI BioProtection Portal’s key role in delivery.

Looking ahead

The meeting highlighted continued collaboration among Members and a shared commitment to expanding awareness and access to sustainable pest management solutions. As the CABI BioProtection Portal continues to grow in both its reach and impact, it remains an important resource in supporting the adoption of bioprotection among farmers and advisors globally.
