What is Integrated Pest Management?

Bioprotection or biocontrol can be used within an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programme/approach. Integrated Pest Management can be defined as:

“an holistic approach to management of a pest by all available means, including the judicious use of chemical pesticides.”

Why use biocontrol?

Hay varias razones muy buenas para utilizar biopesticidas y controles biológicos:

  • Son naturales y tienen un impacto ambiental mínimo, además de que dejan pocos o ningún residuo tóxico, por lo que obtenemos alimentos más limpios y seguros.
  • Pueden introducir diferentes modos de acción a sus homólogos químicos, reduciendo la presión de selección para la resistencia a los pesticidas.

  • Trianum-G (Koppert Biological Systems) which contains a fungus that grows along the roots of plants and protects them from incoming disease
