We are delighted to welcome Crop Defenders as a new partner to the CABI BioProtection Portal. Based in Canada, Crop Defenders was developed and created by founder Dr Ishtiaq Rao. The company’s philosophy is based on keeping the environment close “at heart” and focusing solely on biological – or natural – methods of pest control.

Crop Defender’s goal is to help growers devise the best possible plan for the highest possible yields while minimizing costs and risks. The company is passionate about non-chemical pest control – visitors to the CABI BioProtection Portal will be able to benefit from the expertise and in-depth knowledge that Crop Defenders brings.

A portal to support the biological control of pests

A ground-breaking information resource for the biological control of pests, the CABI BioProtection Portal is available on four continents, helping growers and agricultural advisors to identify, source and correctly apply biocontrol and biopesticides in agriculture, thereby tackling problematic crop pests. The portal is available in local languages and can be accessed on multiple devices to help cater to the specific needs of its users.

In particular, the portal helps users access up-to-date information on nationally registered and available bioprotection products. It is an innovative tool that helps to promote the awareness and uptake of more sustainable approaches to agriculture and horticulture worldwide.

The partnership with Crop Defenders follows the launch, earlier this year, of the CABI BioProtection Portal in Canada. Farmers and growers visiting the portal will now have access to even more detailed information on non-chemical pest control options available in Canada and beyond.

Crop Defenders joins existing partners, sponsors and donors and will now be part of the portal’s Development Consortium that guides the ongoing development of the CABI BioProtection Portal, including the countries that are added to the tool.

Dr Ishtiaq Roa, CEO of Crop Defenders, said: “We are very pleased to join with CABI and the BioProtection Portal on this exciting venture.”

Dr Ulrich Kuhlmann, Executive Director, Global Operations at CABI said: “We warmly welcome Crop Defenders on board and are particularly excited to see the growing interest in the portal among biocontrol manufacturers in Canada. Crop Defenders is the fourth Canadian company to partner with us. We look forward to working together with Crop Defenders to further enhance this important and freely available information resource.”
